WE ARE MEY & BOAZ KAHN

Israeli designers Mey Kahn (b. 1985) and Boaz Kahn (b. 1975) first met in 2005 as students at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem. In 2008, while still in school, they co-founded StudioKahn, a studio dedicated to slip-cast ceramic objects based on 3D modeling. In 2012 they relocated to the center of Israel and opened their workshop & showroom near their family home in Ramot Hashavim village. In 2018, StudioKahn established its own design brand, KAHN, which produces and distributes a selection of the studio’s designs.

StudioKahn creates design-items for the home that bring joy, color and sophistication into the space and boost up the experience and liveliness of the interiors.
Their work is marked by high-finish, clean-cut, unexpected shapes: “We combine precise industrialized production processes with the crafts and traditions of ceramic materials, and strive to create an iconic, colorful yet minimalistic visual language, that emphasizes the story-telling quality of our designs."

Standout projects to date include Fragile (2008), a series of products which cannot be used unless broken in half by the user, for which the studio earned the 2008 Designboom and Macef competition 1st Prize; Herzl (2013), a collection of ceramic boxes and vases modeled after 'made-in-china' plastic toy parts and assembled in a child's-play-like process; and Island of Maybe (2017), a series of sculptures/vases with silicon connectors that invite the user to complete their design by choosing different dentures and shape their "self" definition.

StudioKahn’s work has been exhibited at a number of fairs and institutions and won several prizes including, among others: Fresh Paint Art & Design Fair (2013-2018, Tel Aviv) ; Solo exhibition "From Mold to Fragment | StudioKahn", Design Museum Holon (2015) ; Israeli Biennale for Ceramics – Eretz Israel Museum, (2013 Tel Aviv) ; DesignTide fair (2012, Tokyo) ; Sotheby’s Design-Dream Exhibition (2011 Tel-Aviv) ; Green Heart Award IIDA (exhibition and 3rd prize) (2010, Korea) ; Techno Craft - Design In The Age Of Individuality, YBCA (2010, San Francisco) ; 100 years to Bezalel exhibition at the Senate Orangerie Du (2009, Paris) ; Polonsky Award for excellence in design (2009 Israel); Lodz Design Festival (2009, Poland).
